Bad Mary Band

How long have you been in the music industry?  We’ve been a band since 2010, and have been releasing original music since 2012. So about 5-7 years.

How long have you been performing under your present name?  We’ve been performing as Bad Mary since early 2013, 4 years.

Where did you grow up?  Amanda, Mike, and Bill all grew up on Long Island in New York. David was born in Hawaii but grew up in England.

What in that era shaped your musical development?  It’s Mix-Bag. We attribute the late 1970s rock scene in NYC as a major influence, taking many a cue from bands like Blondie or Ramones. However, we’re influenced by other periods such as the 1960s and the 1990s

Who are your major influences?
Ramones, Blondie, Green Day, The Police

How old were you when you started following a musician’s path?
Bill started playing Drums at 4. Amanda spent most of her life involved in Musical Theater, which she started before she was 10. Rock and Roll performance became her calling as she got a little older, in college.
Mike started playing music in the 3rdgrade. He first picked up a bass when he was 12 and has been playing rock music ever since.
David started playing guitar when he was suspended from school in England. He was in his mid-teens.

Who are the members of your band and what are their musical backgrounds? (Please fill this out completely)
Bill Mac – Drums – Bill has played drums since he was a child. He’s performed in many bands in the NY area since the 1960s and 1970s. Bill has played in pits, wedding bands, show bands, and in original bands. He’s been with Bad Mary since 2011 and has been an integral part of our sound. Bill is also a voice-over artist and radio host and Amanda’s Dad.

David Henderson - Guitar- David started playing guitar when he was suspended from school at 16. Since then he has performed in many bands over the years. David is a theater professor at Hofstra University in NY. Bad Mary was born from a theater department party band that decided to stay together after everyone graduated.

Amanda Mac-Vocals- Amanda’s background started in Musical Theater when she was a child. She attended Hofstra University and studied theater performance. She graduated with a BFA in Performance just after she joined the band that would become Bad Mary in 2007. Amanda still performs in theaters today and has had a great career performing in a wide variety of shows. She likes rock and roll musicals the best though.

Mike Staub- Bass/Vocals – Mike started playing music in elementary school. He was a trumpet player throughout his career before college. Mike attended Hofstra University and received a BA in Music in 2008, majoring in trumpet. Mike performed throughout his college days. Mike started playing bass when he was 12 and performed in rock bands throughout high school and college. Mike joined the band that would become Bad Mary in 2007.
Tell me a funny story that has happened to you like you.  We just recorded our last EP in a haunted house! We were in the process of getting ready to record our new EP, Glitter Bomb, in Brooklyn, until we were contacted by a new studio out of Staten Island. We were interested and then we were invited to tour their space. Their space is a beautiful 19th Century mansion on Staten Island. We then did some research to find out that it’s one of the most “haunted” houses in the US. It also was an AMAZING experience recording there.

Where would you like to be in five years?  We want to keep doing what we’re doing. We want to keep writing and releasing music. In 5 years, we’d love to have larger audiences and play bigger venues. We’d love to tour Japan and Europe and play bigger festivals in the US.
What inspires you to write?  Everything from the world around us to the movies we watch. We’re inspired at odd times for differing reasons. A lot of our music is reactionary. It’s our reaction to what’s happening in the world, or what we see on Social Media or hear around us. Though, sometimes, we just write songs about Ninjas and Robots because those are things we like.

What is your philosophy on life and how does it affect your music?  Our philosophy on life is to enjoy it…have fun. So many folks are so distracted at how bogged down life can get you that they take very little time to enjoy how great it can be. We want to provide people with that escape. It affects our music because we also want to exude that feeling of fun and personality above all else. We want people to listen to our music to get away from all the negativity that seems to swirl around us. We want them to get the same feeling from the music that we get.

Please add the names of the places you have played and the city they are in.  Warped Tour – Jones Beach – Long Island, NY Liberty Music Festival – Philadelphia, PA Dewey Beach Music Conference – Dewey Beach, DE.
Arlene’s Grocery – NYC
The Trash Bar - - Brooklyn
