RedSix Band

 Interview

1. Who are the members of your band and what are their musical backgrounds?

Redsix consists of Denny (vocals), Kevin (guitar), Wicak (guitar), Ipang (bass) and Rizma (Drums). Denny has been exposed to music ever since before he was born and were raised by parents who were both musicians. Kevin has a bachelor’s in music and has been in the industry since 2006. Wicak has played guitar since 2008 and has since found solid footing while playing and writing for Redsix. Both Ipang and Rizma have played professionally for over 10 years, whether it be in other bands or as session players.

2. How long have you been in the music industry?

Redsix as one unit has been navigating in the industry for about three years. Some of its members on the other hand such as Ipank and Rizma have been in the industry for around ten years with their other projects.

3. How long have you been performing under your present name?

Redsix has been running since the beginning of 2018, making it almost three years of operating as Redsix.

4. What genre would you call your music?

We like to generally define our genre as either pop-rock or alternative rock. We feel that those two genres are really good umbrella terms to define our music, since the songs we write fall within quite a wide spectrum because of our influences also span that wide spectrum.

5. Who are your major influences?

REDSIX is influenced by a very large spectrum of bands and artists, from Fall Out Boy to Toto and Blink 182 to Hall and Oates. We think being able to pull from such a large spectrum of references is what makes writing REDSIX songs really fun.

6. How old were you when you started following a musician’s path?

We think it’s safe to say every member of the band caught the bug around middle school or high school and never stopped since then.

7. Tell me a funny story that has happened to you as you have travelled to play.

Over the three years that we have been performing there are way too many mishaps to remember. We’ve been lost in the woods, in the middle of a riot, and led to various unclear locations by our map apps.

8. Where would you like to be in five years?

We’d like to be at a place in our music career where our music and our performing can be a source for comfortable support for us and our families. We realize that it’s quite a tame dream compared to winning like a Grammy or playing at Wembley Stadium but it would be amazing to be able to be comfortable as a direct result of pursuing something we feel so passionate about and love doing. That being said we wouldn’t mind a Grammy.

9. What inspires you to write?

We think that we should, most of the time, let inspiration come when it chooses to. But there are many instances when we’re just jamming and a really good riff or a fill comes up, and everybody’s gears start turning.

10. What is your philosophy of life and how does it affect your music?

We think balance is really key in a lot of aspects in life. It also shows in the songs we write and teaches us to stay planted and not be too idealistic, to play what makes us happy and what makes listeners happy. It teaches us to appreciate different perspectives instead of dismissing them.

11. Please add the names of the places you have played and the city they are in

Jakarta International Expo located central Jakarta.

12. Do you have any causes that tug at your heartstrings, or that you support?

Aside from any causes relating to music, we are big advocates of cancer awareness, because we have family members that have battled it. We’re also all really big dog people, so any cause towards the wellbeing of dogs is something we’ll always contribute to.

13. Do you have any new releases coming out?

Our most recent release was our single “Vessel”, available on all your favorite platforms well as a music video on YouTube. Up next, we have the release of our fourth single towards the end of the year. This will be our fourth single and these four most recent singles will be compiled into an EP.

14. What is your upcoming performance schedule?

With the current situation regarding the pandemic, any physical performances will be off the table for quite some time, but we have planned releases on YouTube and Instagram live over the coming months.
